This is the normal way to write it.
It has the advantage of looking close to the Gurbani character. However, there are a lot of changes in direction of curve as you do it and people have a tendency to keep to one type of curve.

This is another way.
Topologically, it is the same. However, this is a lot quicker to draw because the first curve back does not snake - there are no changes in direction of curve.
The loop at the bottom does not have to go back as far to the left as it is drawn here because there is not going to be anything to confuse it with so the letter can resemble a diagonal cross with a loop on the lower-right leg and still be readable without ambiguity. I'm not saying that it looks good but it is quick and effective.
